What Can Life Coaching Do for You?

December 20, 2019 By Urb Organic Spa

Do you feel like your life is trapped in a never-ending rut?  Would you like to be more decisive, or break through the negative self-image that’s been holding you back?  Perhaps you have a goal, but no clear vision to help make it a reality.  Or maybe you do have the vision, but you need an actionable plan to help get you across the finish line.

No matter what your needs are, a life coach can help.

Let’s examine a few of the ways that a life coach can bring focus and direction into your world.

Discover yourself
Have you lost sight of who you are and what you want?  Did you ever even know those things to begin with?  If so, you might find some real value from working with a life coach.  Often, our self-perception is hidden beneath thick layers of social pretense and years of neglecting our psychological upkeep.  But by working with trained professionals, you can gradually begin to scratch away the façade and find the “real you.”  Finally, you can unlock your inner passions and find out what motivates you to pursue your goals.  Even if you think you’ve got things all figured out, you might be surprised at what a life coach can help you discover.

Find your happy
We all need a change from time to time.  Or sometimes, the thing that we need to change is ourselves.  A life coach will help you examine every aspect of your life and sift through the details to pinpoint precisely where your change needs to happen.  Once you’ve located the source of your unhappiness, your coach will assist you in building a plan of action that will get your life back on track.

Keep your happy
You didn’t see this one coming, did you?  Because happy people don’t need life coaching, right?  Wrong.  When we’re content and confident, our brains are more open to growth, and our souls are more likely to seek out additional sources of fulfillment.  Some would argue that life coaching can have it’s most profound effects on happy people.

Get uncomfortable
It doesn’t matter what you call it:  Your comfort zone, your routine, your bubble.  It’s all the same.  Literally.  So many of us go through life like it’s some sort of never-ending carousel.  Round and round we go, but never actually getting anywhere.  Does this sound like you?  If so, a life coach can help you to break free from the shackles of monotonous comfort and blaze a new trail forward.

Essential Elements of a Holistic Skin Care Routine

November 22, 2019 By Urb Organic Spa

Beauty truly does come from within. And when building your holistic skincare routine, it’s not about getting the latest topical creams and ointments. Instead, focus on keeping your body healthy and happy on the inside by following these helpful suggestions.

Nutrition
Believe it or not, you can actually eat your way to healthier skin. It’s true! If your diet is healthy and balanced, it will show on your face. Avoid unhealthy foods that create a spike in your blood sugar, such as white bread, pastries, soda, and sweets.  Basically, stay away from anything that’s highly processed and/or contains extra sugar. Instead, opt for the food choices that are high in fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and some healthy fats. Examples include beans, lentils, whole-wheat pasta, leafy green veggies, berries, apples, pecans, and avocados.

Water
You’ve heard it a million times, and that’s for a good reason: It’s true. Staying hydrated is hands-down, the best thing you can do for your skin. Water fills the cells of your body with oxygen and nutrients while removing toxins. It makes the skin plump and beautiful and is proven to slow the aging process by keeping everything taut and elastic.

Exercise
It’s not just for sculpting that peach booty in time for summer. By now, we all know that a regular exercise routine is vital for the overall health of our bodies, and that includes our skin. Something as simple as going for a walk around the neighborhood helps get the blood flowing and improves circulation. This promotes the transportation of oxygen to our skin cells and the removal of toxins.  Plus, working up a sweat can help clear out the pores. Just don’t forget to wash up afterward.

Sleep
We all know what a lack of sleep does to our skin. We’ve all had the late night followed by an early morning, and then been horrified by the dark rings under our eyes, and the colorless, drooping skin. Sleep is the time when our bodies rejuvenate. If you don’t get enough of it, the whole world can tell. Why do you think they call it beauty sleep?

Stress
This is likely nothing new for most of us. We all know that stress is bad in a lot of ways, but it’s also an unavoidable fact of our everyday lives. Obviously, you can’t remove all stress, but you can take steps to keep it under control. And if you’re successful, your skin will thank you. Stress can cause an acne breakout before a big event, or it can induce hives or rashes. And if you have existing conditions like rosacea or psoriasis, it can make those worse. So in other words, “keep calm and carry on.”

Waxing vs. Sugaring: Which is Best for You?

October 24, 2019 By Urb Organic Spa

Waxing vs. Sugaring: Which is Best for You?When it comes to removing unwanted body hair, shaving seems to be a part of nearly everyone’s routine.  We shave it off, but it grows right back.  So when a longer-lasting result is needed, what do we do?  Well, most of us go get a hot wax.  It’s unpleasant – I can’t think of anyone who enjoys it – but it works.  But what about sugaring?  How does it work?  Is it a good option?  Let’s take a quick look at each one to determine which is best for you.

What is Waxing?
First things first:  If you’re not familiar with waxing, it is the process used to remove areas of body hair by pulling them out from the root.  A warm oil-based wax is spread across the skin and then covered with a strip of muslin cloth.  When the wax is cooled, the strip is quickly separated from the skin, bringing the dried wax and unwanted hair follicles with it.

What is Sugaring?
The process of sugaring is almost identical to waxing.  But instead of a hot wax, sugar uses an all-natural mix of sugar, lemon juice, water, and glycerin that is usually at room temperature.  The hair removal process though, is pretty similar.  It is still laid on the skin and pulled off with a strip of muslin cloth.

Waxing versus Sugaring
If you just can’t handle the pain of waxing, give sugaring a try.  It doesn’t hurt nearly as badly.  Don’t get me wrong, though.  It’s not exactly comfortable, but the pain is diminished.  Here’s why:  With waxing, the cloth is removed in the opposite direction from the natural hair pattern – against the grain.  But with sugaring, it is removed in the natural direction of the growth pattern – with the grain.  The hairs are still taken out by their roots, but this change in direction makes a huge difference in the level of discomfort.  Plus, unlike wax, the sugar paste doesn’t stick to your skin.  Instead, it only attaches to the hair.  So when it comes time to rip off the muslin cloth, your skin is left unharmed.

It’s important to point out that sugaring can sometimes struggle to remove thick, coarse hairs.  Waxing, on the other hand, has no problem yanking out any follicles, no matter how tough.  If you’re unsure if sugaring is an option for you, ask your aesthetician.

4 Tips To Slow Down A Hectic Life

January 18, 2019 By Urb Organic Spa

4 tips to slow down a hectic lifeLife moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. So are the immortal words of Ferris Bueller. If you find yourself rushing from the house to the office, to the gym, to the practice, with little rest in between, your life has become too hectic. It’s time to slow down a bit.

Create a plan

When you’re in the middle of chaos, it’s hard to stop and make sense of everything. But when you don’t have a plan, it only fuels the chaos. It’s important to stop and think about what you are doing in life, what you want out of life, and what you want to focus on. If you can come up with a plan, your life can begin to shape itself around your dreams, making you and everyone else around you a lot happier.

Schedule Your Day

At night, even if you’re tired, stop for a few moments and look at the day ahead of you. Some people wait until the morning to set a daily plan, but your day starts a lot earlier than when you can perform this task. As well, you don’t want to be agonizing all night long about what you need to do.

Look at the next day to know what are necessary tasks that need to be performed. What meetings and appointments are there? Look for ways to be more efficient with your time. Can you pick up multiple errands at the same time? Is there someone else who can drive your kid to practice? What leftovers are still in the fridge that can be repurposed for dinner? The more planning you an do ahead of time, the smoother your day will be.

Schedule Me Time

Time for yourself is often tacked on to the end of the day. Maybe you’ll have 20 minutes of peace where you can relax with a good book. Or more likely you’ll be too exhausted and will just fall into bed. If you don’t schedule time for yourself, then it won’t happen and you won’t get the opportunity to slow down.

Start by blocking out time in your day that is just for you. Maybe this requires waking up 20 minutes earlier. Or maybe you can use your lunch break and actually go out the building for a much needed breather.

Ask For Help

If you’re finding that you still can’t find a block of time for yourself, then look for others to help. Can a neighbour pick up the kids from school? Are you able to alternative dinner prep with your partner? Is there an option to work from home one day a week so that you don’t have to spend time in transit? There are often options for finding me time, you just might need to be creative.

What Is Holistic Nutrition?

November 18, 2018 By Urb Organic Spa

what is holistic nutrition If you’ve ever felt that your whole person should be considered to lead a happy, healthy life, then holistic nutrition is something to consider. Instead of compartmentalizing health, holistic nutrition seeks to look at the relationships between diet, exercise, mental health, and the body. Read on to learn more about this exciting science.

Harmony

Holistic nutrition believes that if one part of your self is out of line, then chances are that other parts of your self need help too. Instead of looking at an ailment and trying to fix it, a larger picture needs to be painted first. For example, if you are having difficulties sleeping, holistic nutrition won’t just prescribe sleep medication and have you on your way. Instead, it will look at physical, mental, emotional, and environmental causes. Perhaps you are stressed at work and can’t calm your mind. Maybe your diet is too high in sugar and needs to be adjusted. Maybe you are too sedentary in the evenings and need a bit more exercise.

Specific Needs

Holistic nutrition really focuses on you as an individual. It does not prescribe to fad diets, but rather looks at your specific needs. It can make you feel more like a person and not just a number. Maybe you metabolize certain foods faster than others and so weight gain isn’t an issue. But maybe, despite the healthy foods you choose, you still feel lethargic. Holistic nutrition looks at everything to understand what is happening with your body.

Past Health

Often, health can be a bit cyclical. You may experience headaches at one time in the year, but not in others. Or maybe you had a rash when you were little, and it lay dormant but is not out again as an adult. Holistic nutrition wants to know about your past as well as your present to help you connect dots and see patterns. We usually don’t just change our health drastically overnight. Rather, we slowly evolve over time.

Preventative Health

Most often when we visit a doctor it’s because something ails us, and we want to fix it. But what if we invest more time in ourselves to prevent ailments from happening in the first place? This is where holistic nutrition really works. By constantly evaluating your lifestyle and assessing your needs, you can adjust your health to keep it in an optimal setting. Be aware of warning signs before they manifest into problems. The more you understand your past and what contributes to either a healthy or unhealthy life, the more you can control your own body. Take the time to observe your behaviors and seek a holistic nutritionist to create a plan for the best health possible.

What Is Osteopathy?

August 18, 2018 By Urb Organic Spa

what is osteopathy

There are many types of body therapies out there and it can be hard to keep track of them all. When your body is hurting, you want to find the right treatment possible. This can lead you to researching different methods and have you asking the questions, what is osteopathy? This article is meant to explain what is osteopathy and how it can help you.

Quick Definition

According to the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, osteopathy is a manual form of therapy. It seeks to emphasise the interrelationship between structure and function of the human body. The premise is that the body is able to self-heal and self-regulate and osteopathy wants to facilitate this. It’s important to note that Osteopathic practitioners don’t see themselves as people that heal the body. Rather, they facilitate the body to create health.

Who Benefits from Osteopathy?

If you’re wondering if you can benefit from osteopathy, then it’s important to know just what it can be used to treat. Those that suffer from common ailments like headaches and migraines can definitely benefit from osteopathy. This form of healing also targets body pain, specifically neck and back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, and hip pain. As for joints, if you suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome, or tennis elbow, then osteopathy is worth pursuing. It can also help with more sever ailments like sciatica and soft tissue pain.

What Happens with Osteopathy?

Now that we’ve covered the general definition and what can be treated by osteopathy, it’s important to explain what is involved. Similar to massage treatment, osteopathy pressure and palpations that are skillfully applied to the body. These movements seek to reduce and resolve muscle distress in the body. Osteopathy targets specific parts of the body. It can also be throughoutthe body, depending on what is the target.

Don’t expect for your body to heal itself after just one session. While you should feel some immediate change in your comfort level, your body needs time to heel. Be aware that multiple sessions of osteopathy may be useful to help guide your body into a stronger form of its present self.

First Steps

Hopefully this guide has given you an overview of what is osteopathy. If you’re feel like it might be for you, the best thing is to talk to someone. If you are currently in pain, be sure to see a doctor for professional medical advice. They can provide some tests to help diagnose the problem. Then, ask for suggestions on how to heal your body.

To find out more about osteopathy in particular, talk to a specialist. Urb Organic Spa has trained professionals and can answer all of your questions.
